Everyone has that idea. A shirt with a private joke only your friends will get. A mug with your dog's face. A gift box with your parents' wedding photo. A run of branded hoodies for your startup's anniversary. For years, making these things meant dealing with massive minimum orders, long lead times, and printers who didn't care if the result was ugly.
Custom design printing has changed all of that. Thanks to digital printing technology, you can now order a single t-shirt, a run of 10 mugs, or 500 branded notebooks — and each one can look exactly the way you imagined it. At ThePrintsPlus in Surat, Gujarat, we've spent 17+ years turning rough ideas into polished prints for customers across India.
What Counts as Custom Design Printing?
Pretty much anything you can imagine printing on, we can print on. The most common categories we handle:
- Apparel — T-shirts, hoodies, caps, aprons, jerseys, tote bags — DTF, sublimation, or screen-printed.
- Drinkware — Mugs, sippers, water bottles, steel tumblers, wine glasses — all customizable with your design.
- Stationery — Business cards, notebooks, planners, notepads, letterheads, envelopes, invoice books.
- Gifts & Keepsakes — Photo frames, keychains, puzzles, coasters, pillow covers, photo books, memory boxes.
- Brand Merch — Corporate gift kits, conference swag, employee onboarding packs, giveaway bundles.
- Event Stationery — Wedding invites, save-the-dates, birthday banners, thank-you cards, event signage.
The Right Printing Method for the Right Job
Not every printing method works on every material. Here's a plain-English breakdown:
Direct-to-Film (DTF) Printing
Prints full-color designs onto a special film that's then heat-transferred onto fabric. Great for t-shirts, hoodies, and bags, especially for small quantities or complex multi-color designs.
Sublimation Printing
Ink turns directly into gas and bonds with polyester fabric or coated surfaces. Used for jerseys, mugs, phone cases, photo panels. Produces vibrant, fade-resistant results — but only works on white or light polyester.
UV Printing
Ink cures instantly under UV light, letting us print on almost any solid surface — acrylic, wood, metal, leather, glass. Ideal for signage, gifts, and premium products.
Screen Printing
The classic method for bulk apparel. Not cost-effective for under 25 pieces or designs with many colors, but unbeatable for solid, long-lasting results at volume.
Digital Offset Printing
For paper products — business cards, invites, brochures, packaging — digital offset gives you sharp, full-color prints at small or medium runs without the setup cost of traditional offset.
How to Prepare Artwork That Prints Beautifully
90% of print problems start with the file. A few non-negotiables:
- Resolution: 300 DPI for small items (t-shirts, mugs, cards), 150 DPI for large format.
- Color mode: CMYK, not RGB. What looks neon on your screen may print muted if left in RGB.
- File format: Vector (AI, EPS, SVG, PDF) wherever possible. Logos especially should always be vector.
- Transparent backgrounds: PNG or PDF, not JPG, if your design needs to sit cleanly on a colored surface.
- Safe zones: Keep important text at least 5mm inside the print area.
No design yet? You don't need one. Send us a rough idea, a reference image, or even a napkin sketch. Our in-house design team will create print-ready artwork, usually within 24 hours.
Minimum Orders, Lead Times & Costs
One of the biggest misconceptions about custom printing is that you need to order hundreds. For digital custom printing, minimums are much lower:
- T-shirts (DTF): minimum 1 piece
- Mugs (sublimation): minimum 1 piece
- Business cards: minimum 100 pieces
- Custom wallpaper: minimum 1 square meter
- Screen-printed bulk apparel: minimum typically 25 pieces
Most custom orders turn around in 2–5 working days. Rush jobs (24-hour turnaround) are available for most items at a small premium.
Tips for Getting the Best Result
- Order a sample first for large runs. Pay a little more now to avoid reprinting 500 hoodies later.
- Respect the material. A white logo won't print on a white shirt. Photographic designs look muddy on dark cotton unless you use a white underbase.
- Simplify for impact. Bold, simple designs outperform intricate illustrations on small surfaces like mugs, caps, and keychains.
- Proof everything twice. Typos survive three reviewers and ambush you at delivery. Read backwards, letter by letter, if you have to.
