Short answer: professional wallpaper installation in India typically costs ₹12–₹35 per square foot in labour, on top of the wallpaper itself. For a standard 10 × 8 ft accent wall (80 sq ft) that is roughly ₹1,000–₹2,800 to install. Rates sit at the lower end in tier-2 and tier-3 cities and at the upper end in Mumbai, Delhi NCR and Bengaluru. Textured, metallic and large-format mural papers cost more to hang than plain matte, because they have to be pattern-matched panel to panel.
That is the number most price guides leave out. Material rate is easy to find; the cost of getting the paper onto the wall is what decides whether the project fits your budget. Here is the whole picture, from a workshop that has been printing wall coverings in Surat since 2008.
What you actually pay for
A wallpaper project in India has three separate costs, and they are quoted by different people:

Wall preparation is the line that surprises people. On a smooth, dry, previously painted wall it is nothing. On a wall with flaking paint, damp patches or heavy texture, the installer has to sand, fill and prime before anything goes up — and skipping it is the single most common reason wallpaper lifts at the edges within a year.
Installation cost by city
Labour rates track local wages more than anything else. These are the ranges we see quoted to our customers in 2026:

Ask for the rate per square foot of wall, not per roll. Custom-printed wallpaper is made to your exact wall, so roll counts are meaningless — an installer quoting per roll is working from a different product than the one you are buying.

Assume tier-2 labour at ₹18/sq ft and a wall in good condition.
Bedroom accent wall — 10 × 8 ft
80 sq ft. Installation ₹1,440. Half a day's work, one installer.
Living room feature wall — 14 × 10 ft
140 sq ft. Installation ₹2,520. Most of a day, usually two people for a wall this size.
Full room, four walls — 12 × 12 ft room, 10 ft ceiling
Roughly 480 sq ft of wall before deducting doors and windows; call it 400 sq ft after. Installation ₹7,200. Two days.
Deduct openings honestly when you measure. A door is about 20 sq ft and a standard window about 15 sq ft, and paying to print wallpaper for a doorway is a pure waste. Our measuring guide walks through it with photos.
Does the material change the labour cost?
Yes, more than most people expect.
- Plain and lightly textured papers hang fastest. Lowest labour cost.
- Large-format murals arrive as numbered panels that must line up exactly. A misaligned seam on a mural is visible from across the room, so installers charge for the care.
- Metallic and shimmer finishes show every imperfection underneath. They need a properly prepared wall, which pushes preparation cost up.
- Peel-and-stick is the one material a confident DIYer can genuinely manage alone on a small wall — no paste, no pasting table, and it lifts cleanly if you misalign a panel.
Can you install it yourself?
On a single accent wall, with peel-and-stick, yes. Budget two to three hours for your first 10 × 8 ft wall and buy a plastic smoother — a credit card is not a substitute and will scratch the print.
Call a professional when any of these are true:
- The ceiling is above 10 ft, or you would be working from a ladder near the top of a stairwell.
- The design is a mural with panels that have to align.
- The wall has damp, flaking paint or a heavy texture.
- You are papering more than one wall.
The maths usually favours hiring someone. A ruined panel on a made-to-order wall costs more than the labour you saved, because it cannot be exchanged like a stock roll — it was printed for your wall and nobody else's.
Questions people actually ask
Is installation included when I order wallpaper online?
Usually not, and you should assume not unless it says so. Printers print. Most quote material and delivery; installation is arranged locally. We brief your painter free of charge if you have one, and we have fitters in some metros — message us with your city before you order and we will tell you plainly which applies.
How long does installation take?
A single accent wall is half a day. A full room is one to two days including preparation. Add a day if the wall needs filling and priming first.
Do I need to remove old wallpaper first?
Yes. Hanging new wallpaper over old is the fastest route to bubbling, because you are trusting the old adhesive to hold twice the weight. Removal is usually charged separately, around ₹8–₹15 per sq ft.
Will wallpaper survive Indian humidity?
On an interior wall, yes. The failures we see are almost always damp coming through the wall from outside — a leaking bathroom on the other side, or an external wall in a monsoon-heavy coastal city. Fix the source of the damp before papering; no wall covering will hold on a wet wall.
How much wallpaper do I need?
Width × height of the wall in feet, minus doors and windows. Because we print to your exact measurements you pay for the area you order, with no minimum and no rounding up to whole rolls.

Measure the wall, get the material cost from the wallpaper range — every design shows a live per-square-foot rate and updates as you enter your dimensions — and add your local installer's rate from the table above. That is your real number.
