Before you choose
- Measure the back wall of the alcove at its widest and tallest point; tell us where the shelf sits so the main motif lands above it.
- Vastu: the mandir ideally faces east or north-east; warm colours (saffron, gold, green, cream) on the back wall; avoid black and dark grey.
- Keep open flames 30 cm or more from the wall, as with paint. Our finishes are UV-cured and wipeable; incense residue wipes off.

1. Pichwai lotus pond
The classic, and the wall most of our pooja room customers choose. Lotus, cows and cranes in the Nathdwara tradition on a deep green ground with gold detailing. It works behind a marble mandir and behind a simple wooden shelf alike, because the green recedes and lets the idol come forward. Ask for the lotus cluster to sit at idol height; we place it on the proof.
Colour and light: warm white LED strip above the shelf, not a cool white; the gold detailing needs warm light to read.
Finish: Crystal Canvas (₹230/sq ft) for the painted look; Linen Texture (₹200) if the alcove is shallow and you want a softer surface.
2. Sacred mandala
A single large mandala centred exactly on the idol. Symmetry does the work; keep the rest of the alcove plain. This is the wall for a modern flat where the mandir is a wall-mounted unit in the living room: the mandala frames it without clashing with the sofa.
Sizing tip: the mandala diameter should be about two-thirds of the wall width. Tell us the width and we scale it.
Finish: Art Matte (₹160) or Pearl Metallic (₹220) for a subtle sheen in lamplight.
3. Temple frieze
Carved-stone temple bands printed in warm sandstone tones. It reads as architecture rather than decoration, which suits traditional homes and stone-topped mandirs. Works especially well when the alcove has an arch; we align the frieze bands with the arch spring line on the proof.
Finish: Leather Grain (₹190) gives a stony hand feel; Soft Grain (₹180) if you prefer it smooth.
4. Ajanta fresco
Muted ochres and the soft, worn look of the cave paintings. The quietest option here and the one that ages best; it never looks new and never looks old. Good for homes that want devotional without gold.
Finish: Art Matte; the fresco look depends on a flat, chalky surface.
5. Brass tree of life
A tree of life in brushed brass on ivory. Pairs with brass diyas, bells and a brass idol so the whole corner reads as one material. The most photographed pooja wall we print.
Finish: Pearl Metallic (₹220) so the brass strokes catch the diya light; Stardust (₹270) for Diwali-level shimmer.
6. Kalamkari tree
Hand-drawn Kalamkari with birds and blossoms, for homes that want colour without gold. Lighter and more playful than Pichwai; suits a kitchen-adjacent mandir or a child's first pooja shelf.
7. Ink lotus pond
Lotus in ink wash on a pale ground. Modern flats with a mandir unit in the living room use this to keep the corner calm and coherent with a neutral scheme. Also the right choice if the pooja space doubles as a meditation corner.

Sizing an alcove and awkward shapes
Measure the back wall's width and height at the widest and tallest points; ignore the shelf and any moulding. If the alcove has an arch, measure the full height to the top of the arch and we trim on site. For a mandir unit against a flat wall, paper a panel 1 ft wider than the unit on each side and 1 ft above it; it frames the unit without papering the whole wall. Under-stair alcoves: send a photo and two measurements and we lay it out.

Keep open flames 30 cm or more from the wall, exactly as you would with paint. Incense residue and haldi-kumkum marks wipe off the UV-cured finishes with a damp cloth. If you use a lot of camphor, choose Lustre Satin or Leather Grain, which wipe most easily. Do not fix the mandir unit through the wallpaper with adhesive; screw through it and the print hides the fixings.
